FMS can provide assistance with the selection of hardware
that will perform well in a helicopter environment.
We have been flying this technology since 1996, so we know what works
and what doesn't. We have experimented with several types of hardware
combinations, and we can recommend something we know works. We can also
work with your existing display units, or computers. This system can be
installed on a laptop, and used in the aircraft, or we can help you choose
what will work best for your special needs.
Key Benefits
- Easy to learn - most people are comfortable
by the end of their first shift.
- Current. Only G.I.S. (Geographic Information Systems) data
is used for our maps.
- An “Ortho Photo” layer can be included, for
a daytime picture of the target address.
- Safety features can be added as layers – cell phone
towers, electrical wires and towers, runway centerlines, offshore-distance
to shore-lines, underwater features, temporary hazards, etc.
- Threat level can be assigned to a known offender’s
address, to allow a warning for the approaching ground crews. We can
also import your departments database.
- M.D.T. (Mobile Dispatch Terminal) software
can be run in the same computer, and allows “copy-paste”
of addresses directly into the maps “Search” window.
- Many user selectable options. Auto Zoom, Track Heli, Track
Target, Ortho Photo on or off, etc.
- Reasonably Priced. Complete systems with Hardware are between
$26K and $40K depending on your mapping and hardware requirements. We'll
help you get the right system for you and your budget.
- Powerful - GIS Data gives you the choice of what you need to
see, choose as many or as few layers as you need to get the job done
- User Friendly - You can select having the target address centered,
the aircraft centered, or having both on the screen at the same time.
If you have both selected, as the aircraft closes on the target, the
map automatically zooms in keeping both on screen. Once you are within
one kilometer of the target, the target address becomes centered on
the screen.
- Accurate - You can have an ortho photo layer that will show
you exactly what is on the ground, to help you direct ground units to
exactly the right place.
- Informative - When you enter an address, the map draws a line
from your present position to the target address, and also provides
you with ground speed, Estimated Time of Arrival, and bearing to fly.
Most operators do a quick "zoom to target" to get a look at where the
address is relative to local landmarks, then "zoom to both", so you
and the target are on the screen.
- Flexible - You can search by address (spelling mistakes are
allowed), search by intersection, search by GPS position, and also search
by common place names. For example type in "city" and all places that
begin with city will be displayed, choose the one you want, hit enter,
and the bearing line is drawn to the target.
